Mark Sanders was officially sworn-in as the new Community Schools of Frankfort District 1 Board Member following a vote on Feb. 6 that carried 4 to 0 in favor of his appointment where Sandy Miller was absent, and Bob Marcum abstained from the vote.
Sanders was officially sworn into the role on Tuesday, Feb. 11 before taking his seat on the board for his first meeting. Sanders stands as the Lead Pastor at Faith Family and expressed his viewpoint on education as he assumes the role.
“The 2 anchors to a healthy and thriving community are strong churches and strong public education,” Sanders wrote. “Excited to serve my district in this capacity.”
Sanders received the nomination for the position following the interviews that occurred on Jan. 29 where he expressed his interest amongst four other candidates, including Billy Birge, Beth Hardebeck, Mark Timmons and Peggy Williams.
During his interview, Sanders focused on his background with public education as his father was the first in his family to graduate from high school, which instilled the importance of a public high school education into him at an early age, bringing a personal connection to education that sparked his volunteerism and donations to public education in the community.
Sanders also focused on emphasizing open communication and teamwork amongst the board members to come to a decision without causing conflict.
Sanders officially began his term on the school board on Feb. 11 as he was sworn in at the Community Schools of Frankfort Administration Building.
