The Frankfort City Council on Monday night approved a declaratory resolution designating an economic revitalization area for personal property and real property tax abatements for a building on the north side of downtown that has been dormant for more than a decade.
Mayor Chris McBarnes said that building at 452 North Main St. has been vacant since he was a teenager.
“It brings a lot of blight to that neighborhood, especially there on North Main Street across the tracks,” said McBarnes. “That’s really one of the last areas in connection with our downtown that we really want to get revitalized and picked back up.”
The building used to be the site for Bob’s Marathon. It will be called Quick Shop, a 24-hour convenience store and gas station.
“If you look back at what the Reichert’s are doing at the Bankable Building, there’s some real hope down there,” said McBarnes. “This is going to be a very high class, full service convenience store. Having it dropped back into that location, it will bring that area back to life. It’s just another positive sign that our city’s growing.”
The council also approved eight of the nine CF-1 proposals on the agenda. Those approved were NHK Seating of America, Inc., Fontana Fasteners, Inc., Iron Men Properties of Frankfort, LLC, LOL, LLC, Centurion Solutions LLC, Coomer & Sons Sawmill, Inc., Ellipsis Frankfort Medical Office LLC and NTK Precision Axle Corporation. The council elected to table the proposal on Cherukuri Inc. and Frankfort Plastics Inc. until the May 28 meeting because that group has a deadline it must meet between non and then.
