Feast Of The Hunters Moon Will Bring History To Life

The Wabash River becomes an interstate again for two days during the 51st Feast of the Hunters Moon just Southwest of Lafayette.  40,000 to 60,000 visitors will savor the food, customs, peoples, transportation, music and commerce of 18th century life on the grounds of the oldest European settlement in Indiana.

Saturday October 6th from 9am to 5pm and Sunday October 7th from 9am to 4pm, Feast of the Hunters Moon comes to life once again.  “The Feast” is presented by the Tippecanoe County Historical Association and is thier largest event and fundraiser.

At one time 3,000 native people from 16-18 tribes used to reside at the Fort Ouiatenon location, named after one of the many tribes in the area.

Leslie Conwell, Feast Event Manager with 41 years Feast Experience talks with the Frankfort Rotary Club Thursday September 6th about the upcoming Feast.

7 arenas or staging areas will host dancing, music and cultural presentations reflecting the diverse peoples that make up a part of the rich history of the location. The Fort Ouiatenon location has seen French, British, Native Indian and American influence over the years and 7,000 costume participants will bring the history to life for the 40,000 to 60,000 visitors this year.

50 non-profit organizations support the event each year, making money with food booths, trash pickups, parking and other duties.

Food of the Era takes center stage during the event. Fry Bread, Scottish meat pies and Buffalo take you back to this time in early American history.  Blanket traders and merchants sell replicas of 18th century trade goods including period clothing, toys, Native American items and more.

Parking will be available off-site at the Purdue Stadium $1.00 per way with transportation to and from the event.  Free parking on site or paid parking from neighboring property owners will also be available.
