Food Finders Food Bank received a pet food donation of 820 bags of dog and cat food totaling 31,160 pounds today from PetSmart’s Buy a Bag, Give a Meal program. For every bag of pet food purchased from PetSmart until December 31, they will donate a meal to a pet in need.
The families Food Finders serves often struggle with difficult choices like paying the rent or buying food, and some have to choose between keeping their pet and putting food on the table. Pets provide comfort and become part of the family, and people who are struggling financially more than likely will need food for their pets as well. So, PetSmart and PetSmart Charities are donating dog and cat food to organizations just like ours across the U.S. and Canada.
PetSmart Charities teamed with Feeding America to distribute the pet food to local pets in need. Food Finders Food Bank will distribute the donation to more than 15 animal rescue groups, shelters, and meal programs in North Central Indiana that serve families in need throughout Tippecanoe, Carroll, Clinton, Fountain, Fulton, Howard, Jasper, Miami, Montgomery, Newton, Pulaski, Tipton, and White counties.
Executive Director of Almost Home Humane Society, Stacy Rogers, shared, “The holiday season is our busiest time of the year for our food pantry and this donation will help us continue to provide services for pets and families in our community. Our food pantry helps us ensure pets won’t go hungry in or community and hopefully keeps pets with their family and Food Finders Food Bank is helping us achieve this goal.”
PetSmart expects to distribute more than 60 million meals to pets in need across North America through the Buy a Bag, Give a Meal program. For every pet-food bag sold through the end of the year the company will donate a meal, both dog and cat food, for pets in need.
