Frankfort Downs Lebanon for First Sectional Soccer Championship in 17 Years

Junior Rogelio Angeles scored the only goal in the second half to lead Frankfort to a 2-1 victory over Lebanon in the Class 2A sectional championship match Saturday in Lebanon.

The victory gave the Hot Dogs their second sectional championship in program history and the first in 17 years.

Lebanon took a 1-0 lead in the first half when Frankfort keeper Erick Guardado could not hold onto a strong Lebanon shot and the rebound shot went just outside of his grasp.

Frankfort tied the game later in the half when senior Humberto Aguilar scored on an assist from freshman Rudolfo Garcia-Cruz.

With the victory, Frankfort advances to the Greensburg Regional on Saturday at 10 a.m. against Indianapolis Cardinal Ritter.. The winner advances to the 7 p.m. title game against the winner of the second contest between Herron and Batesville.

Frankfort advanced to the championship match with a 3-1 victory over Crawfordsville in the semifinals and a 2-1 victory over Hamilton Heights in the opening round.
