The Frankfort Fire Department will be conducting controlled burns at 457 N. Hoke Ave. starting Thursday, May 16 and ending Friday, May 24.
Firefighters will begin setting fires in the vacant house. These fires will be extinguished and relit throughout each day. During the controlled burn, smoke will be visible throughout the area. Smoke will likely remain visible through the evening.
Controlled burns are training exercises that allow firefighters to improve their skills for real emergencies.
Fire Chief John Kirby notes, “Real-world training provides an opportunity to ensure our firefighters are effectively prepared to respond to house fires. We want to make sure the public isn’t alarmed when they see the smoke created by this training exercise”.
