Frankfort Kiwanis celebrated winning a friendly competition with Frankfort Rotary on Tuesday.

After Rotary challenged Kiwanis to see which of the two Frankfort service clubs could raise the most money for St. Mary’s Food Pantry, Kiwanis emerged victorious by raising $1,000 to $212 for Rotary.

In addition to some good natured ribbing, the president of the club who raised the least amount of money had to sing a song from the winning service club. That turned out to be Rotary President Jason Wilhite, who sang a Kiwanis-themed song.

The main speaker for the event at Wesley Manor was Boys and Girls Club of Clinton County President Susie Michael.

“This is our busiest time of the year with our Christmas assistance program,” she said. “We serve over 80 families which helps approximately 300 kids.”

The Boys and Girls Club also partners with Shop With a Cop, Frankfort Jaycees, Frankfort Fire Department and other organizations throughout the year.

“There’s always something going on in our kids’ lives,” said Michael. “We have more and more kids who are being raised by their grandparents or another family relative. The dynamic of the family unit of the mother and father is dwindling.”

Michael said their average daily attendance at the club is 109. She added if anyone is in need of a coat, hats or gloves to contact them.

The Clinton County Boys and Girls Club has been chartered since 1957. They provide after school transportation from Blue Ridge, Green Meadows, Suncrest and Clinton Prairie and they have over 100 volunteers who work with the youths. They provide tutoring and educational activities all year long and they’ve started a Teen Outreach program in collaboration with the Center Township Trustee’s Office in 2019. An annual membership fee is only $40.
