Ivy Tech Community College is offering an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) training course in Lafayette this summer. The EMT training course could be free with the state’s Next Level Jobs grant for students who qualify.The class, a partnership between Ivy Tech’s Kokomo and Lafayette campuses, will meet from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays, beginning May 20 through July 24, in the Health Sciences wing of the main building on the Ivy Tech Lafayette Campus.
EMT training at Ivy Tech is a one-course certification program that prepares graduates to sit for the licensing exam, which is required for employment as an EMT. EMTs are first-responders and provide out of hospital emergency medical care for critical and emergent patients. They have the skills necessary to stabilize and safely transport patients for continued medical care.
The Ivy Tech Kokomo Paramedic Science program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) upon the recommendation of the Committee on Accreditation of Educational Programs for the Emergency Medical Services Professions (CoAEMSP).
“Ivy Tech Kokomo’s Paramedic Science program is excited to bring this training to Lafayette,” said Dr. Tammy Greene, dean of the School of Health Sciences for Ivy Tech Kokomo’s Service Area. “There is a major shortage of EMTs and paramedics in the Lafayette area and we hope people will take advantage of this program to move into these important jobs.”
