Karen Hackerd

Karen S. Hackerd, 76, of Frankfort, passed away on Wednesday, May 19, 2021, at IU Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. She was born on December 22, 1944, in Forest, to Robert Barkley and Evelyn (Dalrymple) Barkley White.  She married Gerald Donoho in 1961 and they divorced in 1964.  On May 23, 1973 she married Lowell Hackerd in Frankfort; he preceded her in death on July 3, 1993.

Karen was a life-long resident of Frankfort and graduated from Frankfort High School in 1963.  She worked for eight years at the Clinton County Hospital as a Nurse’s Aide and then for two years in the produce department at the Marsh grocery store.  She was a member of Community Christian Church in Frankfort and enjoyed reading her Bible, listening to music, playing Ms. PacMan, and playing cards. Above all, she loved being a grandma.

Karen is survived by her children; Gary T. Hackerd (Lisa) of New Jersey, Lowell Donald Hackerd (Carrie) and Michael H. Hackerd, both of Frankfort, Teresa Parrett (Barry) of Springfield, Ohio, and Debbie Bledsoe of New Castle; brother, Donald Barkley (Barb) of Lafayette; grandchildren, LeAnn, Kayla, Austin, Pattie, Tracy, Kylie, Cassandra, and Kyle; ten great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.

In addition to her husband, she is preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Cleo Barkley.

Visitation will be held on Monday, May 24, 2021 from 11 a.m. until the start of the funeral service at 1 p.m. at Genda Funeral Home in Frankfort with Pastor Tim Grasham officiating.  Facial coverings are optional.  A live stream of the service will be available online at www.gendafuneralhome.com for those who would like to join virtually.  Burial will follow at Green Lawn Cemetery in Frankfort.
