Kokomo Police Department Receives Reaccreditation Award

The Kokomo Police Department was accredited for a (7th) time on Saturday, March 24th, 2018 in Frisco, Texas by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA).

The reaccreditation represents a satisfactory completion of a continuous process of thorough agency-wide self-evaluation.  This was concluded by a thorough examination of the department’s policies and practices by a team of independent assessors and CALEA’s Commissioners.

The Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA) organization is based in Gainesville, Virginia.  The Kokomo Police Department’s on-site assessment took place from December 10th through December 12th, 2017.

CALEA accredited agencies are seeking to establish the best professional practices.  The Accreditation program requires law enforcement agencies to comply with state-of-the-art standards in four basic areas: Policy and Procedure, Administration, Operations Services, and Support Services.

Kokomo Police Chief Robert Baker stated “It is an honor for the Kokomo Police Department to receive this award and to be among less than 5% of police agencies in the US that are accredited. It shows the hard work and dedication of Kokomo Police Officers and non-sworn members”.

The Kokomo Police Department is proud of this accomplishment and hopes to have many more accreditation awards in the future to help us improve our service to the citizens of Kokomo.
