Lebanon High School recently welcomed a new head girls’ tennis coach and a boys’ golf coach with eyes on the prize for the upcoming seasons.
During the school board meeting Tuesday night, the board approved the appointment of former Lebanon Tiger Katie Hart as the new head coach for the Lady Tigers tennis team and Lebanon High School teacher Thomas Cornelius as the new head coach for the boys’ golf team.
Hart was a 2017 graduate from Lebanon High School and was an avid tennis player, which is a sport she continued to pursue by playing collegiately at Indiana University Kokomo. Hart has been serving as the assistant coach for Sam Godby with the boys’ tennis program as well as assistance coach for Joe Lapage and Tyler Damm, who coached the girls’ tennis team.
Hart has entered the Air Force National Guard and has committed to coaching the girls’ team during the 2024 season and beyond as well as continuing her collaboration with Godby to operate camps and clinics over the summer.
Cornelius has a long history of golfing, beginning his passion for the sport at only 8-years-old. Cornelius accompanied his grandfather to the golf course his grandfather upkept when he was younger, and Cornelius would be set free to play until the swimming pool opened, and the free time among the golf course instilled a passion for the sport within him. Cornelius played varsity golf for all four years at Waverly High School and was the number one player on the team, being named Captain for three years.
Cornelius continued his passion at Adrian College where he was a MIAA Scholar Athlete. He coached for eight years at Safford High School in Arizona and has run numerous junior clinics.
The school board approved the two new coaches for the upcoming season Tuesday night.
