Major Power Outage Hits Frankfort Monday Afternoon

A major power outage hit Frankfort Monday afternoon after a goose got into a Duke Energy substation which caused a domino reaction according to Utility Service Board General Manager Todd Corrie.

After the goose got cooked, it caused a feedback through the line which caused another line to break and fall across the city’s three-phase power lines. Corrie said some residents got their power back within an hour. Others were without power for four-and-a-half to five hours.

Corrie added the City was operating off of two substations overnight and early Tuesday morning instead of all three. Corrie also said the substation is back up and running adding “we’ll do the switching and be back in full force Tuesday”.

The substation damaged was at the corner of Kelley Road and Jackson Street. The outage also forced the closure of Maish Road for some time because of the downed power line.

No injuries were reported.
