Margaret R. Hicks

Margaret Ruth Hicks, 97, of Flora, went to be with the Lord rejoicing in heaven on Wednesday, October 11, 2017 at Logansport Memorial Hospital.

She was born July 13, 1920 in Carroll County, the daughter of Claude Z. and Fay Brower Pearson. On February 27, 1940 she married C. Henson Hicks, Burlington; he preceded her in death on March 6, 1999.

Margaret graduated from Carrollton High School in 1938. She was a very active member of Sharon Baptist Church where she was their past secretary. She was also a longtime member of the Carrollton Cardinals Home Ec Club. Margaret devoted her life to raising her six children and supporting her beloved husband on their farm. She was an amazing cook & baker known for her pies & cookies, using her garden to provide for her family and friends; and a seamstress and quilter, a tradition passed on to her children. Margaret loved her cats, Tigger and Shakespeare, and her dog, Patches; greatly enjoyed playing the piano, especially hymns which one could hear her humming and whistling; and playing games with her family including Boggle, Yahtzee, and Skipbo as well as crossword and word search puzzles.

She never knew a stranger and shared her giving heart, hospitality, endearing smile, and laughter with anyone. Margaret will be remembered as a Godly woman who leaves a great legacy for her family to continue.  She placed her trust and faith in the Lord throughout her lifetime.

Surviving Margaret are her children, Robert D. Hicks, of Galveston, Carma Lu (Tim) Busch, of Logansport, Marilyn (Ed) Keeler, of Camden, Carolyn (Joe) Hensley, of Flora, and Jane (Darrell) Edging, of Flora; sister, Eva Lou Shanks; 14 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.
