Masks Will Be Optional for Students at Community Schools of Frankfort

Students attending the Community Schools of Frankfort this fall will not to be wearing masks according to Superintendent Joel McKinney.

“It’s your option,” said McKinney. “We don’t want to say that we are discouraging mask usage. We are not. In fact, we’re encouraging it for anyone who is unvaccinated. However, we also don’t want kids to have to come back to school wearing a mask if they don’t feel comfortable doing that. So, we want to give that to our parents and let them make the call.”

McKinney did add that students will be able to wear a mask if they feel comfortable in doing so.

“I do feel good right now,” he said. “I guess my feelings could change depending on the how the climate of COVID goes over the next three weeks. But, I feel like this is a fair thing to do for our families and the right things to say to most dads and moms and caregivers of the children that they are sending to school here in the next few weeks.”

In other news, the board approved the selection of Robert Marcum as its newest school board member replacing Annie Bacon.
