Incumbent Chris McBarnes captured the primary election for mayor Tuesday with a convincing victory over challenger Lewis Wheeler.
McBarnes garnered 1,358 votes (73.01 percent) to 502 votes (26.99 percent) for Wheeler. Should there be no challenger coming up in the November election, McBarnes will be embarking upon his third term as mayor. Wheeler had been representing District 3 on the Frankfort City Council.
In the contested city council races, incumbent Clarence Warthan defeated Gena Carson 166 to 127 (56.66 percent to 43.34 percent) in District 1, Michael Brite downed Cory Boyles 152 to 120 (55.88 percent to 44.12 percent) in District 3 and Brandt Fuller defeated incumbent David Hussey 246 to 99 (71.3 percent to 28.7 percent) in District 5.
For the two at-large positions on the city council, Megan Sheets and Eric Woods were the top vote getters with 1,179 and 1,046 votes, respectively. Sheets finished with 36.92 percent of the votes while Woods had 32.76 percent. Isac Chavez wound up third with 558 votes (17.48 percent) and J.J. Tate finished fourth with 410 votes (12.84 percent).
Winners who were unopposed were Judy Sheets (Clerk-Treasurer), Matt Beardsley (City Court Judge), Joe Palmer (City Council District 2) and Steve Beardsley (City Council District 4).
