An overnight house fire beside the Jail was made safer by the quick response of our Corrections Officers.
An inmate returning from work release noticed visible flames from the back side of the residence and dialed 911.
Corrections Officers Rugis, Nelson and Cunningham responded from the Jail. Officers knocked at the residence to awaken the occupants inside and then assisted with removing children and animals.
The residents and animals were brought to our public lobby to make arrangements.
“I am so proud of the quick actions of our Corrections Staff to go above and beyond their duties to assist citizens in an emergency. Our jail officers are outstanding and this is a great example of their selfless acts of heroism and compassion. Also, a big thanks to our inmate for his diligence in calling in the fire.” – Sheriff Rich Kelly
