Frankfort Fire Department units were dispatched at approximately midnight Sunday to 1001 E. Clinton St. for a structure fire. All units arrived and began search/rescue and fire suppression tactics.
During the search and fire suppression tactics, a victim was found in an upstairs apartment and was removed by firefighters. EMS personnel began life saving measures and transported the victim to IU Health Frankfort Hospital where the victim subsequently died..
The identity of the victim has not been released and the fire is still under investigation. Battalion 1 called for a second alarm and six firefighters were called into man the city while all other Frankfort Fire Department units were on the scene of the fire.
There were no firefighter injuries reported. Frankfort Fire Chief John Kirby said firefighters did a tremendous job on such a tragic scene and the administration commends them.
More information will be available once the fire investigation is complete. Indiana State Fire Marshals Office is assisting the Frankfort Fire Department investigator on this matter.
