Police Remind Residents of Property Watch Program

Residents inside the City of Frankfort’s corporate limits are encouraged to take advantage of the Police Department’s free Property Watch Program to benefit from extra police patrols of their properties while homeowners are away.

According to Police Chief Troy Bacon, residents simply need to visit the Police Department’s service window in the main lobby at 201 West Washington Street to request a Property Watch form or visit the City of Frankfort website.

“Residents are asked to complete a series of questions on the Property Watch form which include the date of departure and date of return as well as emergency contact questions and other information our officers can use to contact homeowners in case of emergency. With many people taking vacations and other scheduled trips during the summer months, this service notifies us when residents will be gone and allows us to assign extra patrols and give additional attention to vacant homes”, Bacon said.

Once the form is received and processed, officers are notified of a property watch request.

“This service by no means completely prevents someone from being victimized, but our extra patrols dramatically reduce the chances. There is no reason not to participate in the program. It’s quick and easy to fill out the Property Watch form and let us know that extra patrols would be helpful during the time homeowners are gone,” Bacon said.

Since 2012, the Frankfort Police Department has received 316 property watch requests.
