From all indications, this year’s Stuff the Bus event put on by SHINE 99 and Kaspar Broadcasting was highly successful Wednesday night at the Frankfort Walmart.

Center Township Trustee Kevin Evans (yellow shirt) obtains items to Stuff the Bus with school supplies to help students from Center Township.

Five Clinton County schools — Frankfort, Clinton Central, Clinton Prairie, Rossville and The Crossing — each brought a bus to collect donated school supplies. With these donations, kids will now have a chance to have everything they need in the classroom to begin the school year.

“I think it’s just awesome for Clinton County,” said Frankfort High School Principal Steve Edwards. “But for Frankfort, it’s nice because we have a lot of kids who need help getting supplies for the school year. This is an opportunity for everybody in the community to come out and donate to each of the schools. It’s kind of fun to watch these other buses and have a little competition to see who’s getting more supplies.”

Edwards added it was fun to be out at an event with all the other county schools.

“It’s fun to see all the other administrators and kind of just talk about school and how we’re excited to get started,” said Edwards.

Center Township Trustee Kevin Evans was one of the sponsors for the event.

“This turned out great,” said Evans. “We had 40 kids that we took shopping today. The Frankfort school bus is full. If you try to go sit on one of those seats, I don’t think you’re going to school today. It looks really good on that bus.”

Evans said he will continue to support this event.

“As long as I’m trustee, this will continue,” he said. “I hope the other trustees will jump on board at some point. But, if there’s a new trustee, I hope it’s something they fund valuable for the community.

“I think the biggest thing is being able to provide something for children that might actually need it,” continued Evans. “Being able to fill a gap for a parent I think is always a positive thing. The smiles that the administrators are having knowing these supplies are coming back into their building in the hands of students. Teachers don’t have to go out and buy a lot of these supplies. It helps the teachers immensely.”
