Two Accidents on State Road 28 East Injures Two

This is an aerial shot of the first accident on State Road 28 East Friday morning.

Two separate accidents in the 4000 block of State Road 28 East Friday morning resulted in two injuries and forced the closure of the road for almost four hours. The accidents happened in an area three miles past Walmart.

At 7:41 a.m., Clinton County Sheriff’s officers were called to the scene of a three-vehicle crash involving two semis and a pickup all heading eastbound on State Road 28 East. The first semi stopped for a loading school bus and the pickup stopped behind that semi for the same bus. The last semi for some reason failed to stop hitting the pickup truck and crushing it between both trucks. The school bus was not involved and the driver did not know there was a crash behind them.

The pickup driver, 67-year-old John Elliott of Frankfort was taken to a Lafayette hospital by ambulance. The semi drivers, 38-year-old Adam Engelbart of Anderson and Larry Steffen of Auburn were not injured. Toxicology will be done on all drivers.

The second accident occurred just west of the truck crash. It appears the driver of a vehicle, 52-year-old Kimberly Ferrel of Michigantown was slowing down due to the crash in the eastbound lane and was hit in the rear by a vehicle driven by 28-year-old Cory Hutchison of Muncie. Ferrel was treated at a local hospital for injuries.

All information is still under investigation at this time.
