The Whitestown Metropolitan Police Department reported that a two-vehicle collision between a passenger vehicle and a police vehicle launched an investigation into the presence of alcohol in the incident.
On June 5, around 11:30 p.m., a Whitestown Metropolitan Police Department officer was reportedly utilizing an emergency vehicle median turn-around lane on I-65 North at the 135.5 mile-marker, and as he was slowing his speed in the median side emergency lane with red and blue lights activated, a silver Honda Crosstour sedan reportedly struck the rear of the police vehicle at a high rate of speed.
The department reported that one officer and the driver of the suspect vehicle were immediately transported to Methodist Hospital with moderate injuries from the crash, and a multi-agency CRASH team is currently investigating the accident. Officers reported that alcohol is considered to be a contributing factor to the incident as of 3 p.m. on June 6.
The suspect was identified as Ever Reyes of Indianapolis, and reports showed that Reyes is currently being investigated for a preliminary charge of operating a vehicle while intoxicated with endangerment.
“Please keep our officers and their families who were involved in this incident in your thoughts and prayers in a speedy recovery,” the department released.
Multiple Boone County law enforcement agencies and EMS agencies assisted in the incident.
