USPS to Suspend Mail Delivery for Second Straight Day

The United States Post Service announced Wednesday that it will suspend delivering mail to areas in some parts of the country Thursday due to the extreme cold brought on by the polar vortex.

This decision marks the second straight day that mail has not been delivered to individuals in Clinton County, Tippecanoe County, Carroll County and Montgomery County. In addition to deliveries, pickups from businesses, residences and collection boxes are also suspended. All post office retail operations will be open.

Besides Indiana, other states and areas affected by the suspension of mail include Michigan, Detroit, Central Illinois, Chicago, Lakeland (Southeast Wisconsin), Northland (which includes MInnesota and Wisconsin), Hawkeye (which includes Iowa and Illinois), Northern Ohio (Cleveland and Lima areas), Ohio Valley (Cincinnati and Columbus), South and North Dakota and Eastern Nebraska.

The areas affected in Indiana are 460-469, 472-475, 478 and 479. The numbers reflect the first three digits of the region’s zip code.
