Clinton Prairie Down Faith Christian for Third Straight Victory

Clinton Prairie jumped off to an 11-point lead after one quarter and never looked back in a 62-47 non-conference boys’ basketball victory over Faith Christian Saturday night in Jefferson.

The victory was the third straight for the Gophers, now 4-3.

Brandon Mosson led three players in double figures with 17 points. Bailey Good was next with 14 points and Grant McGraw added 12. Good also had seven rebounds and six assists, both team highs. McGraw had six boards.

On Friday night, Mason McGraw led four players in double figures with 15 points as Prairie held on for a 61-58 road victory over Frontier.

The Gophers led 21-12 after a quarter.

Grant McGraw had 13 points, while Good and Trevor Funk each tallied 10. Good also had 11 rebounds and seven assists, both team highs. 

In other action, Rossville had its five-game winning streak snapped with a 60-47 home loss to Lafayette Central Catholic Saturday night. The 5-2 Hornets defeated Carroll 58-48 Friday night.

Frankfort lost its seventh straight game Saturday night in a 57-45 home loss to Western. The Hot Dogs, 1-7, loss to Central Catholic 54-33 Friday night.

Clinton Central remained winless in five starts Friday night with a 59-45 loss to Tri-Central.

Wrestling

Frankfort placed fourth in the 16-team Twin Lakes Invitational on Saturday. The Hot Dogs had nine individuals place and had two individual champions — Elijah Anthony at 106 and Ezekiel VanDeventer at 182.

On Thursday, Frankfort claimed the Clinton County championship by defeating Clinton Prairie 45-30 and Rossville 52-24.

Going 2-0 on the evening was Anthony, Josue Bautista, Juan Campos, James Ostler, Christian Matias, VanDeventer, Diego Nava and Jack Bond. Finishing 1-0 were Armando Roa and Marco Cruz.

Swimming

The Frankfort boys’ swimming team lost to Lebanon 126-38 and the girls fell to Lebanon 123-59 on Thursday night.

Event winners for Frankfort were Evan Jordan in the 50 and 100 freestyle events, Patciance Dean in the 50 freestyle and Karleigh Bessler in the 1-meter diving.

On Tuesday, the FHS boys  fell 110-63 to Tri-West and the girls were beaten 98-88.

Jordan won the 50 and 100 freestyle events and teamed with Aizik Niccum, Adam Haynes and Antoni Veloz Lopex to win the 200 medley relay. Haynes also won the 100 breaststroke.

Dean was victorious in the 50 freestyle and teamed with Kileigh Adams-Long, Aubrey Teter and Morgan Dean to win the 200 medley relay.

Girls’ Basketball

Kya King knocked down a three-pointer to tie the game and Emily Michael sealed the victory with some clutch free throws as Frankfort defeated Clinton Central 43-40 Thursday night.
