Residents who are at risk for lung cancer now have access to convenient screening services through a mobile lung screening unit coming to the community.
The mobile screening program is being made possible through the Clinton County Department of Health and provides an opportunity for eligible residents to receive a low-dose CT scan designed to detect lung cancer early, when treatment options are often more successful.
According to health officials, lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer-related deaths in Indiana, but many people do not experience symptoms until the disease has advanced. Early detection through regular screening can help identify lung cancer at a more treatable stage.
Lung screening is:
- Fast, with the scan taking less than 10 minutes.
- Simple, requiring no needles or changes of clothing.
- Effective, helping detect cancer early when it is most treatable.
- Covered by many insurance plans, including Medicare and Medicaid. Assistance may be available for those who are uninsured.
To qualify, individuals must meet current screening guidelines, including:
- A history of smoking 20 pack-years or more (average packs smoked per day multiplied by the number of years smoked).
- Being between the ages of 50 and 77.
The next mobile lung screening opportunity will be held on:
Thursday, July 16
9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Clinton County Department of Health
1234 Rossville Ave., Frankfort, IN 46047
Appointments are recommended. To schedule a screening appointment, contact the mobile lung screening team at 317-962-LUNG (5864) or email lungscreening@iuhealth.org.
The program is provided in partnership with the Clinton County Department of Health, IU Health, and community health partners to help make lifesaving screenings more accessible for local residents.
