The 39-year-old man entrapped in Monday morning’s farmhouse fire on Rossville Avenue died at 3:30 p.m. Monday in Eskenazi Hospital, Frankfort Fire Chief John Kirby announced Monday evening.
Firefighters had pulled the man from the burning house and CPR was performed on him at the scene prior to him being lifelined to Eskenazi very early this morning. His identity has not been released.
The conditions of the remaining five victims remain unknown at this time.
Firefighters responded to a fully-involved two-story farmhouse fire at 2243 Rossville Avenue at 2:20 a.m. this morning. With mutual aid from Rossville and Mulberry, firefighters had the fire under control by 4:00 a.m.
The fire still is under investigation.
According to Fire Chief John Kirby, firefighters pulled an adult male out of the house and he was airlifted to Eskenazi Hospital in Indianapolis and a five-year-old male was lifelined to Riley Hospital in Indianapolis.
“Two other victims were transported by ambulance to IU Health in Lafayette, a fifth victim was transported to Riley Hospital and a sixth victim is at IU Health in Frankfort.
“Battalion Chief Mike Henry called in tanker mutual aid plus manpower from Station #9 in Rossville and Station #11 in Mulberry. Eleven off-duty Frankfort firefighters were called in with five reporting to the scene and six reporting to our headquarters to cover the rest of the city. We had the fire under control by 4:00 a.m.
“Three Frankfort fire investigators are investigating the fire, plus representatives from the Indiana State Fire Marshal’s office who were notified for possible assistance,” Kirby said.
No firefighters were injured.
