After Nearly 100 Years, Indiana Beach is Being Closed

One of the most well-known amusement parks in the state of Indiana is closing.

The California-based owner of the nearly century old Indiana Beach announced Tuesday afternoon the amusement park tucked along Lake Shafer about 30 miles north of Lafayette announced the facility would close.

Apex Parks Group, who owns Indiana Beach, said it was closing Indiana Beach because it couldn’t find a buyer. The company added it was closing three other amusement parks it owns across the country for financial reasons.

According to reports, White County economic development director Randy Mitchell said this was a punch in the gut and they didn’t see this coming at all.

Indiana Beach was a cornerstone in Monticello and was famous for its slogan and jingle, “There’s more than corn in Indiana”.

It is also being reported that Apex has told Mitchell there will be information coming soon regarding the status of employees, the rides of what’s to come for the more than 300-acre space.
