Frankfort Community Schools is the education agency responsible for the Building Trades program, but the program is available to students from Clinton Central, Clinton Prairie, Frankfort and Rossville High Schools.

A total of 22 students were recognized Friday night at the Building Trades Open House held at 2040 Brookside Court in the Southridge Subdivision in Frankfort. The house they built is a 1400 square foot, 3-bedroom, 2-bathroom  house with a 2-car garage.

“We had a lot of students from a lot of different high schools,” said instructor Ray Santos. “We had great kids that participated. They stayed with us the whole year and helped us finish.”

Students in the course were Devin Anderson, Drew Castillo, Colton

Davis, Noah Dubree, Brock Fingerle, Jovani Guijosa, Zach Howe, Levi Jenkins, Isaac Mata, Alex Matias, Jose Meza-Sierra, John Moore, Jordan Ortiz, Andrew Palmer, Joey Pitman, Ricardo Saavadra, Dyllan Shelley, Riley Tarkington, Adolfo Vasquez Sanchez, Mathew Walker and Dominic Warthan. Each received a plaque and a power tool for their efforts.

“This is a great thing for us,” said Santos. “I call it a tangible thing. You can drive down this road in 5, 10, 15 years and you can look over at something you did in high school and be proud of it.”

Santos added the course is gaining interest.

“We have 48 kids that have signed up for the course next year,” he said. “Rossville will be coming into our program and we’ll have some students from there. We’ll have the same floor plan again next year and we have some people already interested in the project. So, we’re excited about that.”

The Advisory Committee is made of Matt Hines (President), Brad Smith (Vice President), Kurt Cantlon (Secretary), Lee Randolph (Treasurer) along with board members Susie Trees, Steve Frey, Gary Crum, Jack Ransom, Mike Kelley, Dick Hammer, Mark Sheets, Cody Stanley, Nikki Stock Beem, Mathew McQuinn and Ray Santos.

Any profit gained from the sale of the house will go toward the next project house or the education program of the school involved.
