WLFI and Metro News are reporting that a Carroll County couple is accused of keeping dozens of animals in deplorable living conditions.
James and Shannon Ballard have nine animal cruelty charges against them, and prosecutors say additional charges are pending.
Eighteen dogs were taken from their property near Camden in May following a citizen complaint. A search warrant served this week led the rescue of 18 more dogs, 10 chickens and four cats. The animals are in temporary foster homes or shelters.
Authorities say all of the animals lacked proper food, water and shelter.
