The Frankfort Police Department announced the 2024 Officer of the Year as a K9 handler who joined the force in 2022.
The Frankfort Police Department leadership recognized K9 Officer Ethan Cunningham as the department’s 2024 Officer of the Year with Cunningham having demonstrated outstanding achievement and performance above and beyond his normal duties in serving as an example of leadership and professionalism.
Cunningham was hired on Sept. 5, 2022, and he was selected as a K9 Handler in October 2024. Department leadership stated that Cunningham helped to lead the department in self-initiated activities that helped to promote community safety, helping to lead Frankfort to see a 26% decrease in crime in 2024.
“Officer Cunningham is an integral part of the FPD team,” Chief Scott Shoemaker said. “While so many of our employees work very hard, he stood out for his drive and determination.”
Cunningham will receive a department award on a later date.
