The Delphi Police Department has released information regarding downtown parking in Delphi today, Friday, Aug. 23 as another hearing for the Richard Allen trial and Indiana Bacon Festival road closures will be in effect.
The department stated that due to the hearing scheduled for today, Aug. 23 in the Richard Allen trial alongside the street closures beginning at 5 p.m. for the Indiana Bacon Festival setup, community members driving in the downtown area should be aware of the parking limits and possible changes to roads and parking spaces.
The department stated that the temporary tow away zone signs will be reinstated in the downtown area, but drivers are welcome to park legally until 5 p.m. Following the 5 p.m. mark, drivers will be subject to having their vehicle towed at the owners expense if they are parked within the Bacon Festival parameters.
As well, due to the Bacon Festival setup, the department announced that it will not be barricading the media permit parking lot as it typically does during the high-profile trial hearings. Media members have been instructed to utilize the parking spaces that are not time restricted, which may be found throughout the downtown area within a one to two block radius of the courthouse.
The department stated that 15-minute, 30-minute and 2-hour parking restrictions will be heavily enforced throughout downtown as well, and Courthouse employees are instructed to utilize the reserved lot at Franklin Street and Wabash Street.
“If you have any questions or need any clarification, we will have extra officers working the downtown area,” the department released. “Flag one of them down, and they will be happy to help you.”
