Drive Sober Or Get Pulled Over: State Law Enforcement On Patrol During St. Patrick’s Day Festivities

The Indiana Criminal Justice Institute and the Indiana State Police released information stating that with St. Patrick’s Day celebrations taking place this week, the department urges drivers to celebrate responsibly and drive sober or locate a ride home if necessary.

The department released that drivers should plan ahead if they intend to consume alcoholic beverages during their St. Patrick’s Day celebrations, and community members should not wait until after drinking to plan their means of traveling as alcohol impairment may cloud a person’s judgement.

ICJI Traffic Safety Director Jim Bryan encouraged drivers to secure a designated sober driver, call a taxi or rideshare for a sober ride home if they are drinking.

“There is no excuse for driving while impaired,” Bryan said. “Even one drink can affect your ability to drive safely. If you plan to drink, plan for a sober ride home.”
