Frankfort Library Receives Humanities CARES Grant

The Friends of the Frankfort Public Library, Inc. is very grateful to be awarded one of the generous Indiana Humanities CARES Grants.  This grant is of vital help with the losses incurred during the last few months surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic, and will directly benefit the Frankfort Library and our community.

The Indiana Humanities announced today the distribution of more than $500,000 in operating support to 74 organizations across Indiana.  The Indiana Humanities CARES Grants will provide important funding relief for nonprofit organizations that provide humanities programming.  Awards range from $1,000 to $15,000, depending on the size of the organization’s budget, and were awarded to groups large and small, carrying out a variety of programming, in each congressional district and in 48 of our 92 counties.

Due to the closing of the Frankfort Library and cancellation of Friends programs that generate a large amount of income, the CARES Grant will help offset partial salaries and donations to the Frankfort Library usually funded by the Friends.  This includes the Hubbard Center for Lifelong Learning, children’s and literacy programming.  The loss of revenue during this time will affect the Friends contributions to the Library, in addition to the Library’s loss of daily revenue of copies, fines, and book sale donations.  Thank you to the Indiana Humanities for this tremendous support during this time of unprecedented time of need.

Funding has been provided to the Friends of the Frankfort Public Library, Inc. from the Indiana Humanities and the National Endowment for the Humanities, as part of the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act economic stabilization plan of 2020.
