Frankfort Native Awarded Indiana Homeland Security Scholarship

Krista Padgett, a Frankfort native, is one of 13 Indiana students who received a scholarship from the Indiana Homeland Security Foundation. Padgett attends Ivy Tech Lafayette, studies nursing and has volunteered at the Perry Township Volunteer Fire Department.

Each student receiving a scholarship attends an Indiana college, is pursuing a degree in a safety- or health-related major and has volunteer experience at a public safety organization such as a police or fire department, emergency medical service or emergency management agency. The funding for these scholarships was provided through purchases of “Secure Indiana” license plates.

“By donating to the Indiana Homeland Security Foundation, people are doing two important things: They are helping save lives with funds that buy life-saving equipment at the local level, and they are improving the lives of amazing college students, by helping them with scholarships,” said Steve Cain, chair of the Indiana Homeland Security Foundation Board. “The Foundation is honored to provide scholarships to students who consider safety and the condition of others a top priority.”

The revenue from “Secure Indiana” license plate sales funds the Indiana Homeland Security Foundation. The Foundation, one of the first of its kind in the nation, provides financial support for critical public safety needs across Indiana. The Foundation offers a Secure Indiana Scholarship to provide higher education financial assistance for Indiana students who wish to pursue a degree.
