The much anticipated walk-through and punch list check for Washington Avenue took place Tuesday afternoon. And, from all indications, everyone received glowing remarks.

“This is great. I love it down here,” said Frankfort Mayor Judy Sheets. “I think this is exciting for the city. So anxious to get it open. Hopefully, in the next week, we’ll have it opened up.

“This doesn’t even look like Frankfort,” added Sheets. “They have done so much of an improvement here. We’ve got great sidewalks. People now have a plan to walk or run.”

Sheets was joined by Street Superintendent Jason Forsythe, City Councilman Joe Palmer, Head of Community Affairs Kimberly Black along with a one member each from Milestone and American Structure Point. The group walked all the way from the post office entrance to the Milky Way and back.

“I’m pretty excited about it,” said Forsythe. “I think Milestone and American Structure Point have done a great job. We saw a few things that they are going to take a look at for us. It was nice of them to hang out with us and walk with us.”

Forsythe added, “For our city to have this thoroughfare done from basically downtown all the way out to Maish Road with all utilities is great. Obviously, with what’s going on with 28, it’ll open up another thoroughfare for the city for people going east to west.”

Washington Avenue is expected to open on Monday, December 20. Construction crews still have striping to do on the road itself and also put grass seed in where dirt is currently now located.
