Healthy Communities of Clinton County Coalition unveiled its new digs in downtown Frankfort Wednesday with an open house and awards ceremony.

“We had a really good turnout for people to come here to our new office at 16 North Main Street and see what we have here,” said Healthy Communities Executive Director Lorra Archibald.

The event was capped off by two awards being handed out. Suilon Benjamin was named Volunteer of the Year by the group and Melissa Dexter was the recipient of the Carol J. Price Award, which is an award named after the group’s founder, Carol Price.

“I’m extremely honored to be given the Carol J. Price Award,” said Dexter. “It was a big surprise to me. Lorra told me I needed to be here tonight because IU Health was being recognized.”

Dexter is a Program Manager for Community Outreach in the IU Health West Central Region.

Dexter was asked how important Healthy Communities is to Frankfort and Clinton County.

“Healthy Communities is vital for the health of Frankfort and Clinton County,” said Dexter. “They do so much stuff not only for this county but the region. They are working hard to improve the health of Clinton County.”

Dexter said she works a lot with Healthy Communities, not only in Clinton County but in the IU Health West Central Region which covers Lafayette and Monticello in White County.

Archibald says she hopes people are beginning to understand what the agency does.

“We are really only as good as the people that we reach,” said Archibald. “The more people know about us the more people who can use our services. The more people we reach, the better our county is going to be.”
