Center Stage Community Theatre was honored at the Lebanon City Council meeting earlier this year as a proclamation was read to celebrate the newly recognized “Center Stage Week” set for this week.

During the city council meeting on Monday, Aug. 26, Lebanon Mayor Matt Gentry read a proclamation to declare the week of Aug. 26 through Aug. 30 as Center Stage Week in Lebanon in honor of the organization’s 30 years of theatrical excellence in the community.

The proclamation read:

Whereas, Center Stage Theatre was established in 1994; and

Whereas, Center Stage was created here in Lebanon by a small group of ten founding members; and

Whereas, Center Stage Theatre is the only philanthropic theatre that exists solely within the boundaries of Lebanon, Indiana; and

Whereas, Center Stage and its members continue to embrace the friendships made on the many stages and unwavering support from our patrons and volunteers; and

Whereas, Each year, our local theatre hosts guests near and far representing 24 counties in Indiana, 90 different zip codes and 10 states beyond Indiana; and

Now, Therefore, Be it resolved, I, Mayor Matt Gentry, Mayor of the City of Lebanon, Indiana recognize Lebanon’s Center Stage for thirty years of service to the City of Lebanon and its surrounding community and proclaim the week of August 26-30, 2024 as Center Stage Week and further direct that this Proclamation become part of the official records of the City of Lebanon.

The Center Stage board, led by President Mary Zurfas, accepted an additional plaque that accompanied the proclamation, which honored the visionary founders whose passion and dedication helped establish the theatre to bring the joy of live performance to the community for three decades.
