Memorial Hospital shared a sentiment from Reum regarding the situation where two fishermen located him trapped within his vehicle after veering off the Salt Creek overpass, where he remained for six days. Reum extended gratitude for the outpouring of support from the community and the well wishes he has received. He also extended an additional sentiment for the two fishermen that found him, the first responders that helped free him from the vehicle and the caregivers at the Memorial Hospital for tending to his injuries.

According to authorities, Reum remains in critical condition, and he has asked for time to process everything that he has endured since last Wednesday as well as time to rest and heal. The Memorial Hospital release stated that “Matt knows he has a story to tell, and when he is ready, he plans to share details of that experience.”

Until Reum has recovered and has begun to share his story, he requested privacy during the following days for himself, his family and his friends. Reum concluded the release with a statement regarding the situation and his mindset after the ordeal.

“No matter how tough things get, there is a light at the end of the tunnel, sometimes in the least expected way,” Reum said.
