In a partnership between the City of Frankfort and the Center Township Trustee’s Office, Project Cool! will provide free fans to qualified individuals to help deal with this summer’s hot temperatures, Mayor Chris McBarnes and Center Township Trustee Kevin Evans announced Thursday.
Applications to apply for a free fan are available at the Center Township Trustee’s Office at 6 South Main Street in Frankfort, with Center Township Standards and Guidelines used to determine who receives a fan.
According to Evans, priority will be given to people 50 years and older, families with children and those with medical issues.
“The heat of summer is upon us with Project Cool! being offered from June 1 – September 1. The fan program is critical because high temperatures pose dangerous health consequences for the elderly, ill and those with medical challenges,” Evans said.
Evans’ office also is accepting donations of fans to distribute them to those in need. Anyone interested in donating a fan can either drop it off at the office at 6 South Main or call the office at 765-601-4232 to make needed arrangements. Office hours are Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 9:00 a.m. – 3:50 p.m. and Thursdays from 3:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.
In launching this inaugural program, McBarnes likened it to the project his administration and Evan’s office initiated this past winter, providing shelter resources.
“This past winter, we had several residents in need of warm shelter and we collaborated to provide those folks with the important and needed resources to help keep them safe and out of the bitter cold. With summer here, providing fans to those in need is equally important,” McBarnes said. “Project Cool! is another step to help ensure everyone is kept safe in hot temperatures. This program, like so many, is a reality thanks to teamwork. We thank everyone in advance who can donate a fan to help make that part of Project Cool! successful.”
