RDC Says All Concerts Must Be Held Within Confines of Prairie Creek Park

The Frankfort Redevelopment Commission voted 3-1 to slightly change the 2024 budget request by the City of Frankfort for entertainment in Prairie Creek Park.

“The board on the entertainment budget has decided they want to keep it in the park,” said RDC Chairman Joe Palmer. “We use to help with things like the big stage during the Hot Dog Festival out on the street. But the board has made the decision since they had so much money invested into the park that they decided they wanted to try and control that portion of it with the concerts all through the summer.”

What this does is eliminate all concert entertainment that had stages and other things in the street. Everything now must be held within Prairie Creek Park.

Community Development Director for the City of Frankfort Kimberly Black had presented the $100,000 budget to the board for next year’s concert series.

The vote was 3-1 in favor of this with Palmer being the lone board member that voted “no.”

In other action, the RDC was asked by Black is they would consider paying half of the parking and housing study in the downtown area. The total price of the study is $23,000 which means the RDC would pay half or about $11,500.

Palmer describes the area of the parking study would encompass.

“It’s basically down from the old police station and it will run all the way down to Sycamore Street where NAPA and Auto Zone down is there by the post office,”  said Palmer. “It’s going to go over to Walnut and take Walnut east and west there.”

Palmer added they have asked the city to consider expanding the area down to Morrison.

A decision is expected to be made by the November board meeting.
