Troy Harris Named New West Lafayette Police Chief

Mayor John Dennis names Troy Harris as Police Chief for the City of West Lafayette, effective February 5, 2019.

Deputy Chief Troy Harris is a 20 year veteran of the West Lafayette Police Department with a broad range of leadership experience in law enforcement. In his 20 years with the West Lafayette Police Department Troy has led the Criminal Investigation Division, the Special Services Division, and currently serves as the Deputy Chief of Police.

Harris is a 1995 graduate from Purdue University where he double majored in Psychology and Sociology. Harris is also a graduate of the Northwestern University Police Staff and Command Executive Management Program. He was named Officer of the Year in 2010 for his leadership, supervision, and successful implementation of a narcotics unit responsible for the seizure of drugs and forfeiture of assets in excess of one million dollars. He is the first person from his family to attend college.

Harris lives with his wife Julie and three children ages 14, 12, and 10. He enjoys spending time with his family and participating in most outdoor activities.

Harris brings an abundance of leadership experience to his new assignment.  He has served this community well and has a strong working relationship with our local, State and Federal law enforcement agencies.  He is a well-respected leader in our community and within the ranks of the West Lafayette Police Department.

A pinning ceremony will take place for Harris on Tuesday, February 5 at 9:00am in the Council Chambers at West Lafayette City Hall (former Happy Hollow Elementary School, 1200 N. Salisbury St., West Lafayette).
