When You Need To Get The Word Out…That’s What We Do

Kaspar Broadcasting started in 1959 with five people over Ellis Jewelry Store on the north side of the square in downtown Frankfort.  Vern and Lillian Kaspar would climb those 26 steps to enter the office and studios for WILO AM 1570.

The transmitter for WILO was still at its current location but in 1959 there was no Frankfort High School or Burger King.  In fact, there were only corn and bean fields from the jog at Speedway at the time.  There was a greenhouse near where the Speedway gas station is now and the current Yamato Steak House location marked the edge of Frankfort.  No McDonalds. No Nazarene Church. No St. Mary’s Catholic Church.  Only corn and bean fields from the jog to the WILO tower except perhaps a house or two.

Since 1959, Kaspar Broadcasting added WILO FM which became 50,000 watt Shine 99 in April 1982.  Clinton County Daily News, Hoosierland TV, Boone County Daily News, the Big Deals store and several events like the WILO Senior Fair and Shine 99 Woman’s Fair were added along the way.
