Bids for the new Aquatic Center were opened at Wednesday’s Board of Works meeting with the news not being as good as anticipated.
“Obviously, we wished they would have been in a little bit lower,” said outgoing Frankfort Mayor Chris McBarnes. “I believe the lowest bid put us somewhere between $9.2 and $9.5 million. Based on what we budgeted and the engineer’s estimates, we’re about $781,000 short of what would be needed to fund the project.”
McBarnes talked about a solution.
“As I told Mayor-Elect (Judy) Sheets downstairs, the ability to deliver this project for the people of Frankfort will be her ability to get out and fund raise just like we have for Prairie Creek Park and Ivy Tech Community College,” said McBarnes.
The pool is not scheduled to open until 2021.
