Heroes Of Hope Held to Improve Quality of Life for All in Clinton County

Frankfort Rotary, IU Health, United Way for Clinton County and Healthy Communities along with their army of volunteers, combined forces to help improve the quality of life for all in Clinton County.

The event and all products and services were free and open to the entire public, held at the Clinton County Fairgrounds Saturday morning May 6th.  The Heroes of Hope event was just south of the 71st annual Frankfort Kiwanis Club Pancake Breakfast held simultaneously at the Edward Jones building.  This arraignment of pairing the Kiwanis Breakfast with another event worked well for years with the annual Clinton County Health Fair presented by the Hospital Foundation.

What if the community held an event that offered at NO CHARGE:

  • Dental Exams (Dr. Jill Snyder)
  • Hair Cuts
  • Family Portraits
  • Shoes
  • Socks
  • Hygiene Products
  • Children’s Books
  • Portable “Help” button
  • Blood Pressure and Glucose screening
  • Mental Health information
  • Bounce House for the Kid-Friendly event
  • Vision Screenings (Lions Club)
  • Free lunch for all near the end of the event

That is exactly what happened Saturday morning.  Covid put the event on hold for a couple years after it started in 2019.

Event Organizer, Rotarian, former Healthy Communities Director and former United Way Chairman Carol Price was “very pleased” with the resources made available and the turnout. “I am very happy. People are backed up ‘til 11 waiting for haircuts and I am pleased with the turnout of booths and people taking advantage of what we have here.”

Tom Crawford, Rotarian and former Hospital Administrator was working the shoe area, where each person could select two pairs of shoes selected on tables or from several boxes of brand new shoes. Shoes for the event were purchased by Rotary or donated by Frankfort Walmart.  Crawford remembered the success of the Health Fair presented on the first Saturday in May for over 20 years. Both events had a similar mission: to mobilize resources and information to improve the health and well being for all who attend.

Smiles were easy to find when a child picked out a new book or discovered a pair of brand new shoes to wear this summer.

One of the sponsors of the event, IU Health, was giving away bicycle helmets and increasing awareness of strokes.  May is Stroke Awareness Month.  BE FAST. CLICK LINK to Learn More about STROKES
