Two-Vehicle Crash Takes Life of Howard County Child

A three-year-old Howard County girl was pronounced deceased at the scene of a crash in Carroll County Friday afternoon.

On Friday, Nov. 1 around 3:30 p.m., Carroll County E911 reportedly received multiple reports of a vehicle crash at the intersection of State Road 29 and County Road 300 South in Carroll County that resulted in the dispatch of EMS, Police and Fire services.

Members of the Burlington Volunteer Fire Department were reportedly the first to arrive on the scene, followed by Flora Police Department Patrol Officer Steven Catron, who worked the initial crash and investigation. According to authorities, Catron determined that a three-year-old Howard County girl was deceased on scene, and he filed a request for the coroner’s office to be notified. Catron also reportedly requested a crash reconstructionist from the Indiana State Police to assist in the investigation.

Investigators reportedly determined that both vehicles, a pickup truck and a van, were traveling northbound on State Road 29 prior to colliding, which caused the van driven by Isaac Rudd, 29, of Howard County to rollover, which ejected one child and injured another child in the vehicle. The ejected child was pronounced deceased at the scene. The name of the deceased child is being withheld pending notification of family members.

Assisting departments included Carroll County Emergency Medical Services, Carroll County Coroner’s Office, Carroll County Emergency Management Agency, Burlington Volunteer Fire Department, Flora Monroe Township Volunteer Fire Department, Burlington Police Department, Delphi City Police Department and Indiana State Police.

The case remains as an active investigation by the Flora Police Department, Carroll County Coroner’s Office and Indiana State Police. Investigating officials are reportedly awaiting toxicology reports to determine if drugs or alcohol were involved in the crash.
