Frankfort Man Arrested On Michigan Warrant, Receives New Local Charges

A response to a burglary report in Frankfort led to the arrest of a man not suspected of the burglary on a warrant out of Michigan for felony assault Monday afternoon.

On Feb. 10, just after 6 p.m., Frankfort Police Department officers reportedly responded to the 1,000 block of Rowe Street in Frankfort for a report of a burglary. When officers arrived, they reportedly checked the names of the individuals present, identifying one of the individuals as Joshua Mays, 41, who had a warrant out of Michigan for failure to appear for felony assault.

According to officers, Mays refused to comply with officers and brandished a knife during the encounter. Authorities reported that officers were able to talk Mays into dropping the knife, but he reportedly informed the officers that he had a larger knife concealed on him.

Officers reported that Mays continued to refuse to comply with the arrest for the warrant and moved to the back of the property where officers continued to talk to him. Officers stated that eventually a conducted energy device, taser, was deployed and Mays was arrested without further incident. Mays was transported by Clinton County EMS to Indiana University Health Frankfort for evaluation. Upon release from the hospital, he will be taken to the Clinton County Jail.

According to officers, Mays is not a person of interest in the burglary, and the department will ask the Clinton County Prosecutor to charge Mays with intimidation and resisting law enforcement.
