Frankfort Fire Department to Host First-Ever Blessing and Push-In Ceremony for New Engine 3 Today

The Frankfort Fire Department is inviting residents to take part in a special community event happening today.

A first-of-its-kind blessing and push-in ceremony for the department’s new Engine 3 will take place at 5 p.m. at Fire Station 3, located at 1400 W. Barner Street in Frankfort.

The ceremony will begin with a blessing led by Pastor Kevin Alber, followed by a traditional wash-down of the new fire engine using commemorative towels provided by the department. Community members will then be invited to participate in the historic “push-in” tradition—helping guide the truck into the station by hand.

Fire Chief Matt Stidham explained that the push-in ceremony dates back to the 1800s, when firefighters would manually push horse-drawn engines back into the station after returning from calls. Today, the tradition symbolizes respect for the past while offering well wishes for the firefighters who will operate the new apparatus and the community they serve.

The new Engine 3 replaces a 20-year-old vehicle and brings updated, state-of-the-art firefighting capabilities to the department.

City officials are encouraging the public to attend and show their support. Mayor Judy Sheets noted that the event is a meaningful way for the community to recognize the dedication of local firefighters and celebrate an important investment in public safety.
