Severe Thunderstorm Watch Issued for Central Indiana Until 6 p.m.

The National Weather Service has issued Severe Thunderstorm Watch 220 for much of central and west-central Indiana until 6:00 p.m. EDT this evening.

The watch includes 27 Indiana counties, including Clinton County and surrounding areas, as conditions remain favorable for the development of severe thunderstorms capable of producing damaging winds, large hail, frequent lightning, and heavy rainfall.

Communities included in the watch area include Frankfort, Indianapolis, Kokomo, Lafayette, Muncie, Anderson, Carmel, Fishers, Greenwood, Shelbyville, Terre Haute, Crawfordsville, and several others across the region.

Counties under the watch include:

Boone, Carroll, Clay, Clinton, Delaware, Fountain, Hamilton, Hancock, Hendricks, Henry, Howard, Johnson, Madison, Marion, Montgomery, Morgan, Owen, Parke, Putnam, Randolph, Shelby, Sullivan, Tippecanoe, Tipton, Vermillion, Vigo, and Warren counties.

Residents are encouraged to stay weather aware throughout the afternoon and evening by monitoring local forecasts, weather alerts, and emergency notifications. Officials advise securing outdoor items and being prepared to seek shelter if warnings are issued.

A severe thunderstorm watch means conditions are favorable for severe storms to develop. It does not necessarily mean severe weather is occurring at this time, but residents should remain alert for rapidly changing conditions.
