The Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs announced the City of Frankfort as one of two communities chosen to participate in “Beat the Heat,” an initiative focused on community health and resilience in heat emergencies. Along with the Town of Nashville, the City of Frankfort will receive guidance from the Indiana Resilience Funding Hub to identify funding opportunities and prepare grant applications to implement at least one heat management strategy.
The selection, announced on May 14, will partner together the City and Healthy Communities of Clinton County Coalition to receive support navigating extreme heat situations, including tools and training developed in partnership with Indiana University.
Healthy Communities and the City of Frankfort will work to pinpoint the community’s unique vulnerabilities and develop plans of action during warmer months, while being equipped with heat-specific data and mapping as part of the program.
“This initiative will provide us with vital information to help us effectively address extreme heat issues,” said Mayor Judy Sheets. “We look forward to working with Healthy Communities by implementing the best strategies to protect the health and safety of residents in our community as the temperatures rise.”
