Mobile Lung Screening Coming to Carroll County June 25

Residents at risk for lung cancer will have access to convenient screening services later this month as a mobile lung screening unit visits Carroll County.

Hosted by the Carroll County Health Department in partnership with Indiana University Health, the mobile screening event will take place on Thursday, June 25, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Delphi Methodist Church, 1796 U.S. 421 North in Delphi.

Lung cancer remains the leading cause of cancer-related deaths in Indiana, but health experts emphasize that early detection can significantly improve treatment outcomes. Low-dose CT screenings can identify lung cancer in its earliest stages, often before symptoms develop.

The screening process is designed to be quick and convenient, typically taking less than 10 minutes. No needles, special preparation, or changes of clothing are required. Most insurance plans, including Medicare and Medicaid, cover the screening for eligible individuals.

To qualify for screening, participants must meet both of the following requirements:

  • Have a history of smoking equivalent to 20 pack-years or more.
  • Be between the ages of 50 and 77.

Appointments are recommended. Individuals interested in scheduling a screening can contact the Mobile Lung Screening Team at 317-962-LUNG (5864) or email lungscreening@iuhealth.org.

Health officials encourage eligible residents to take advantage of this opportunity, noting that early detection remains one of the most effective tools in the fight against lung cancer.
