Quentin G. Schooler, 78, of Frankfort, passed away on Thursday, March 29, 2018, at Wesley Manor Retirement Community.
He was born November 4, 1939, in Columbus, to J.L. and Ellen Schneider Schooler. On June 4, 1966, Quentin married Maryke deRuyter; together they shared almost 52 years of marriage.
Quentin graduated from Columbus Senior High School. Always showing his dedicated, hard-working, entrepreneurial self, he then worked with several banks to secure loans at age 19 to buy his first service station in Columbus, Indiana. In 1973, he, Maryke, and family moved to Frankfort for the opportunity to own and operate Schooler’s “Tires, Tires, Tires.” It was a car wash, tire store, and service station. It then became Schooler’s R.V. where he sold travel trailers, motor homes, and later truck caps and accessories. At one time, he owned stores in three locations Frankfort, Lafayette, and Kokomo. Before retiring in 2013, Quentin had moved into selling antiques and outdoor furniture.
He was a member of St. James Lutheran Church in Lafayette, and past member of the Jaycees and Kiwanis. Quentin enjoyed sports, especially football, basketball, NASCAR, and riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle. He also enjoyed his time in Florida with Maryke. Quentin was a dedicated family man with a big heart; he took great joy in his family’s events and holidays.
In addition to his wife, Quentin is survived by his children, Troy Schooler, of Indianapolis, Stacy (Patrick) Dempster, of Monticello, and Jill (Darian) Trimble, of Huntsville, Ala.; grandchildren, Grant Dempster, Ashlyn Dempster, Houston Trimble, Wyatt Trimble, Luke Trimble, Kai Schooler, and Grace Schooler; brothers, Bernard Schooler and Roger (Patsy) Schooler; and sisters, Regina Allman and Carolyn (Bill) Shireman.
